DINNER AT ZAMBI
2008

After our showers and naps Victor picked us up to join his room mates at a local popular restaurant, Zambi’s, located on the palm-tree lined boardwalk of the lower part of town. The African night is very dark, and on our way there, on a particularly dark curve of the road, we saw the police had stopped a car to check documents, etc. This is apparently not infrequent here and often implies an exchange of cash. As it turned out this was the cab containing the room mates! One a side note: catching a cab here is an acquired skill. Since they do not run on meters you must agree on a total fare with the driver before getting into the cab. This involves talking quietly to several drivers.

Victor’s room mates are very nice, Gabriel works in publicity and his wife Thaís has just joined him from São Paulo. Lucas is a journalist, specializing in Aids work. Gabriel in Maputo for about 4 months, whereas Lucas has been here for 2 years.
After a very enjoyable dinner with fresh grilled fish for us and a big steak for Victor, we moved on to Hotel Cardoso for coffee, located in the higher part of town with a beautiful view of the lower town and the sea - we plan to return for the sunset one day.
Then home to a much needed full night of sleep in our modern air-conditioned hotel room. The photos are here:https://picasaweb.google.com/108088723826036223432/FirstNightInMaputo?authkey=Gv1sRgCPbwq6aYoPjIGA
